GOTTA BREAK!
Youth Street Dance Intensive
Gotta Break! is a March Break
Street Dance Camp where students participate in a week of urban arts workshops.
The camp focuses on street dance – hip hop, break dancing, krumping, body
percussion, waacking, popping, dancehall – but hip hop culture is also explored
through DJ, graffiti and beatboxing workshops. Past teachers have included
Guinness World Record holders, celebrities from So You Think You Can Dance and STOMP!, as well as professional dancers
for artists such as Michael Jackson, Shawn Desman, and Missy Elliot.
Youth Street Dance
Intensive: Gotta Break takes pride in offering quality arts education
to students who are passionate and hungry to learn. YSDI invites in older
students (15-17yrs) to train in a small group with some of Toronto’s top
talent. The intensive will take place from March 10 – 14, from
1-4pm.
This new initiative aims to provide youth with an opportunity to express
themselves through the arts, while gaining experience in a supportive
environment that encourages mentorship, collaboration and
self-motivation. We are looking for passionate high school students
interested in a street dance intensive, as well as volunteer and leadership
opportunities. A minimum of 3 hours of volunteer work (with the 9am-12pm GOTTA
BREAK! campers) is required. These hours may be used towards high school
volunteering requirements.
Apply! Please send your
letters of interest to Vanessa Jane Kimmons: moveme.to@gmail.com Please include: Name, age, dance experience, and tell us why
you are interest in the intensive. Between 10-15
participants will be accepted. While we are specifically looking for
dancers that are facing financial difficulty, ALL interested youth are welcome
to apply.
*This
program is free of charge - funded by GottaBreak! and MoveMe fundraising operations.
