WE DID IT

WISH LIST GOALS!
........................................

WISH LIST! One of our goals was to offer scholarships for students to attend GOTTA BREAK! WE DID IT! Even better actually - we are offer a free Youth Intensive program for 10-15 participants between the ages of 15-18yrs. The intensive will include an opportunity to mentor younger campers, work collaboratively with other highly-skilled students and teachers, and work with some of Toronto's top street dancers.

Thank you to UNITY Charity, Gotta Dance Studios, Team Rhythmworks, and all GOTTA BREAK! supporters over the years. We are so excited! Check in after March Break for some footage and feedback AHHHHHHHHH!

Workshops with Action Potential Lab
.................................................................

There is a great new space at Christie and Davenport ...  Science + Art!

VJK collaborated with Action Potential to offer 'dance + science' workshops that explored Newton's Laws of Motion. More to come! Check it out here: http://www.actionpotentiallab.ca/

Workshops for Grenada
..........................................

Spice Youth Toronto Community Initiative requested an experienced educator to offer hip hop choreography workshops to Metronome Records dance crew in Grenada.

We sent the talented Natasha Powell (Catalyst, DiscoLoveChild) to the rescue.  Providing the aspiring dancer/choreographers with invaluable knowledge surrounding the art of making dances for stage and competition.

Thank you to Natasha, Spice Youth and Metronome Records - see you again soon!

Party For a Sister: Fundraiser
....................................................
Marjory Smarth was my first HOUSE teacher. She has an incredible ability to inspire anyone within ten feet of her. Together with Diana Reyes, Emily Law, Natasha Powell and Cara Gooding, we were able to bring Toronto's (small but tight) House scene together and raised over $1200.00 for Marj and her fight against cancer. Last weekend I travelled to NY and had the pleasure of dancing with some of New York's finest (that's you Marj)...hopefully next time she will be dancing here in Toronto.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, talent and love!

March Break Dance Camp
...............................................
With a great team and amazing students, GOTTA BREAK March Break Dance Camp has had two highly successful years. This past year the students raised money to offer scholarships for next year's intense week of programming - exploring the turntables, artistic graffiti, all styles of street dance, beat-boxing and much more.

Enough money was raised to provide two fortunate students with a full scholarship to next year's camp.  Workshops in the Jane/Finch area will seek two promising dancers and offer the opportunity to take part in the creative and educational week with some of Toronto's TOP industry professionals.  The mentioned scholarships were named after two AMAZING campers who helped raise the necessary funds:

Savi's 2012 March Break Camp Scholarship
Bianca's 2012 March Break Camp Scholarship

Congratulations & a never-ending THANK YOU to all participants, teachers, parents and volunteers!

We are always looking for more volunteers and support - feel free to contact me ;)
